Reconstructive
surgery is a branch
of orthopedics that
corrects skeletal
deformities. It is
also used prior to
total joint
replacements. Soft
tissue
reconstruction can
be performed for
bodily deformities
and/or injuries,
while bony
reconstructive
procedures are
performed most
commonly, to correct
arthritis or to
realign a joint.
Total joint implants
are used to
alleviate arthritis
and pain, but
sometimes when they
ultimately wear out,
revision surgery or
reconstructive
surgery is needed.
This is usually more
involved and should
be discussed with
your surgeon.
