Bone Density Testing

The Orthopaedic Center of Illinois offers bone density testing to determine your risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for 25 million Americans, 80 percent of whom are women. Early prevention and early treatment may help prevent you from sustaining a fracture and other problems associated with osteoporosis. This condition usually affects women but also can affect 10 percent of the male population.

The bone density test is a painless, noninvasive procedure in which a measurement of your bone mineral density is produced to determine your risk of osteoporosis. Licensed and registered x-ray technologists, who have been specially trained to perform bone densitometry, administer this test.

Medicare, as well as most insurance companies, covers this procedure. A physician’s order is required for testing. "Give yourself a break to prevent a break." For more information on how to prevent future fractures or to make an appointment, call us at our Springfield office at (217) 862-0624 or (877) 862-0624.
