In 1986, I hurt my right
knee and had to have
emergency knee surgery. I
was referred to Dr. Scott
through the Passavant ER
Room. I also needed right
shoulder surgery and left
knee surgery. I went back
to Dr. Scott as he is a
great physician, and man.
He goes above and beyond and
takes the time to talk to
you and explains
everything. He has a great
bedside manner and I would
highly recommend him to
anyone who needs to see an
orthopaedic specialist.

Dear Dr. Romanelli,
Thank you for giving me back my life. You did the double hip replacement which I refer to as “The Twins”. I can walk after 12 years of not being able. I can do things I never thought I could do again. Thank you also to your staff, they were all so nice to me. God Bless You, Judy Shipley
I have known Dr. Rod Herrin most of
his life. I knew he had become an
orthopaedic surgeon, so when I knew
surgery was inevitable on my right
shoulder, I called him so he could
recommend someone (as I thought he
only did hip and knee surgery). He
immediately said, “how about me”?
So I immediately made an
appointment. I was in so much pain
I could barely use my arm. I
couldn’t comb my hair or lift my arm
to put on deodorant. I knew it was
time to do something. I had my
total shoulder surgery replacement
November 2005. Even though I had to
ease into using my arm and build up
strength through physical therapy, I
knew right away the initial pain was
gone. It is now Nov. 2006 and I
have at least 95% use of my arm. I
could not be more pleased with the
treatment and care I got from Dr.
Rod Herrin and staff at OCI. I can
even plan a good game of golf
without pain.

Dr. Senica discovered a severe
infection in my left elbow that
could have developed into a very
serious condition that could have
lead to major surgery. The elbow
was treated and she put me on
antibiotics which seems to have
cured the problem. She noticed the
condition of my elbow even though
the reason for my appointment was to
have my knee injected. She must be
complimented for her alertness.
Plus, she is the best in giving “no
pain” injections.

After experiencing
knee pain, I went to my family
practitioner who recommended I see
an orthopaedic specialist. I told
him I wanted to go to the
Orthopaedic Center of Illinois
because my wife had been a prior
patient of Dr. Senica’s there and we
were very pleased with the quality
of her care and outcome of her knee
problems. I was able to get an
appointment with OCI very quickly
where Dr. Herrin diagnosed my right
knee pain as a rupture of the right
quadriceps tendons. Dr. Herrin did
a wonderful job of performing
surgery and afterwards, I have
wonderful range of motion and am now
in physical therapy to continue
strengthening my knee. I have been
treated with platinum care by the
entire staff at the Orthopaedic
Center of Illinois.

I injured my right bicep by lifting
a car from a snow drift. Once
x-Rays were taken by my family care
physician, he thought an MRI was
immediately necessary to determine
if I had pulled the tendons in my
right arm. The Open MRI of Illinois
was able to get me in within 20
minutes, thus expediting the results
so Dr. Herrin could anticipate the
next step. The staff was very
professional and kept me aware of
each step by constantly
communicating with me. The MRI was
not as noisy as others and they made
sure I was comfortably fitted in the
circular device. I have had other
MRIs in the past and this is by far,
the most pleasant one.

I injured my back in the early
70’s. In 1994, I had surgery to
repair a herniated disc. I felt
pretty good on and off for about 5
years and then gradually began to
experience constant back pain. This
past May, I experienced a sudden
onset of back and leg pain which
prohibited me from standing up
straight or walking. My family
physician referred me to OCI. The
receptionist was able to schedule an
appointment for me with Dr. Smucker
quickly and approximately 10 days
later, I received my first epidural
injection at the Orthopaedic Surgery
Center. The nurses and all of the
staff couldn’t have been more
friendly. Currently, I am more pain
free than I have been in the past 6
years. If I ever have any other
orthopaedic needs in the future, I
will not hesitate to return to the
Orthopaedic Center of Illinois.

I first heard of the Orthopaedic
Center of Illinois because that is
where Dr. Romanelli has his practice
and practically my whole family has
been there to see him. I had
Degenerative Arthritis in both of my
knees and living in constant pain
affecting my daily life in every
way. My friends and co-workers
often commented that I looked like I
was in pain just by the way I
walked. So I finally made the
decision to go and see Dr. Romanelli
and see what my options were. We
tried the shots which didn’t work
for me and the next option was total
knee replacement. I had my left
knee replaced on 8/30/05 and the
right knee on 4/18/06 and I can tell
you it was the best decision that I
ever made, it so wonderful not to
be in constant pain. I am taking
walks and doing things know that I
wouldn’t have even considered prior
to having my knees replaced. I
tell everyone how caring and
considerate Dr. Romanelli and his
staff are. How they always are
willing to answer any questions or
concerns that you may have, even if
the waiting room is full they always
take the time because I feel I
am important to them and my
concerns.

I first heard of the Orthopedic
Center from a friend I go to Church
with who just had a total knee
replacement. I called OCI for an
appointment and within 1 week I was
seeing Dr Romanelli. Not knowing he
was watching me walk as I was going
to the x-ray room, he came into the
room and said “you hurt don’t you?”
I said yes; could you help me as I
had been in pain for over 4 years
and did not know what to do? I
immediately felt very comfortable
with the Staff and Dr Romanelli as
he reassured me that he would indeed
be able to help me become active
without being in pain. He explained
the x-rays to me and told me how a
partial knee replacement would
benefit me. Within 30 days, I was
having surgery with assurance and
comfort in the way things were being
handled by Dr Romanelli, his Nurse
and Assistant. They took care of
everything. When it was time for me
to go home, they even set up the
Visiting Nurse and Therapist to aid
me in my rehabilitation. When I
would go back to OCI for my follow
up checkups they acted as if they
had known me for years. To me, that
means they care about their
patients. Now, I feel great; I’m
in no pain and am getting ready to
have the other knee done this coming
November. The one thing I have to
say is, if you’re in pain, call OCI
today - it only takes a minute
towards beginning to live an active,
pain free life.

I had been experiencing Lower back &
leg pain 24 /7. After Dr. Vanfleet
performed surgery on my back, I felt
relief immediately when I came out
of the anesthesia. Since then, I
have been recovering with little
pain. My neighbor & family doctor
referred me to the Orthopaedic
Center of Illinois. They both told
me that it was a very professional
institute - and they were right!
Everyone was very nice & assuring
that I would be in very good hands.
After surgery, I woke up with no
pain and was cared for and checked
on frequently. The staff at OCI
were very professional and explained
the procedure that Dr. Vanfleet was
going to perform. The OCI web site
included information about the
problem that I had and about the
surgery I was scheduled to have. I
would not hesitate to return to this
institution; they are very
professional and the patient care is
excellent.
Thank you,

After falling down my steps years
ago and injuring my left leg and
knee, and 2 surgeries at Mayo
Clinic, I continued to get worse.
Walking was so severe that it
affected my whole body. After
physical therapy and suggesting a 3rd
surgery, I gave up, thinking I would
have to live with this disability
for the rest of my life.
My family doctor retired and my new
family practioner suggested I see
Dr. Herrin, an orthopaedic surgeon
at the Orthopaedic Center of
Illinois in Lincoln. Frustrated
with how my pain was affecting my
social, mental and physical life, I
agreed. My first visit to Dr.
Herrin proved him to be very
thorough and polite. Each time I
visited the Orthopaedic Center of
Illinois, I would ask others in the
waiting room about Dr, Herrin and
never received a negative response –
only praise as to how good Dr.
Herrin is and how much he had helped
them.
After knee surgery, Dr. Herrin
monitored my progress very closely
and I continued to improve enough to
walk normally, without pain. I
could finally see an end to my
disability. I am very thankful to
Dr. Herrin for giving me back my
life. I now enjoy doing all of the
things I not do before my accident.
The OCI staff are all friendly,
courteous and professional and
extremely good with orthopaedic
problems. They really care! I
would highly recommend anyone to go
to OCI for their orthopaedic
problems. I would never go anywhere
else.

My name is Bill
Pinney, I happened upon the
services of Dr. Herrin and his
team by referral
from the trauma team at
Memorial Medical Center after I
was admitted for treatment for
injuries from a motorcycle
accident. After
a giving
it a couple weeks for my
internal injuries to stabilize
and surgery to repair a
compound fracture of my jaw, I was
put in the hands of Dr.
Herrin.
He and his team spent
nearly seven hours rebuilding the
mess I had made of my knee
by grafting cadaver
ligaments to reconstruct my ACL,
PCL
and repair my MCLas well.
He also
installed
a couple of
metal tunnels
(as he called them).
I'm sure there was alot
more involved but,
those few weeks are a blur.
Due to Dr.
Herrin's
skill and knowledge,
as well as his entire staff,
I went from lying on a
ditch bank with my boot under my
chin
to climbing back in and
operating my semi tractor trailer
IN THREE MONTHS TIME!!! A
lot of people deserve credit for
saving my life,
but Dr.
Herrin and the Orthopaedic
Surgery Center team,
as well as everyone
involved in my physical therapy, gave me
back my ability to walk and
function through life
again. I would jump at the
chance {no pun} to have Dr.
Herrin and his staff treat
me in the event I
need orthopaedic surgery again.
If he would have me back, I'll
try to show up with a lot fewer
broken bones. Thanks a million Dr.
Herrin, and God bless you all.

While
visiting Springfield, Illinois, I
went with a painful hip to Dr.
Ludwig’s office at the Orthopaedic
Center of Illinois. I was anxious
about hearing the results. After a
thorough examination and x-rays of
my knees and hips, I heard the news
that I would need a total right hip
replacement. After a discussion
with Dr. Ludwig on the various
options, I felt much more confident
and at ease. Even though I live in
a well known medical area of North
Carolina, I decided that I wanted to
have the surgery done by Dr. Ludwig
of the Orthopaedic Center of
Illinois in Springfield, IL. I
couldn’t have been more pleased with
my decision. The discussions were
very professional from the office
staff that helped me make all of the
arrangements to the discussions with
the doctor on which type of hip
replacement would be best in my case
and what to expect during and after
the operation. The operation was
professionally performed and with
the excellent follow up I recovered
quickly. I can recommend the
Orthopaedic Center of Illinois for
hip replacement surgery without
reservation.
